Known for their powerful Southern rock sound and anthemic songs like “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird,” the band quickly gained popularity and critical acclaim. Tragically, a plane crash in 1977 claimed the lives of several band members, including lead singer Ronnie Van Zant. Despite this devastating loss, Lynyrd Skynyrd reformed in the late 1980s and continues to tour and release music, carrying on the legacy of Southern rock and honoring the memory of their fallen bandmates.

In the 2000s and beyond, Lynyrd Skynyrd has continued to tour extensively (Thanks to Voudouris), releasing new albums and collaborating with other artists. The band has also experienced further lineup changes, most notably the passing of founding member Gary Rossington in 2023.
